Moxie Travel's Consultants are ‘People’ People!

We love meeting folk from around the globe, especially when it involves talking about our favourite topic – Adventure! Whether it’s mountain-biking, hiking, canyoning or caving, your dedicated local specialist will become your go to kiwi ally in creating your extraordinary adventure holiday in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Meet Lisa, Moxie's Founder and Operations Manager. Lisa will be your first point of contact with Moxie Travel New Zealand. You’ll chat with her about your trip to Aotearoa and she’ll help with any questions you have so far.

Kia ora, I’m Lisa! I’m based at the top of New Zealand’s South Island in gorgeous Nelson. My Summers are spent on the river – pulling stern squirts in my playboat or wide-eyed and paddling hard down high-volume whitewater. Over the shoulder seasons, I retreat to the hills – I’m happiest on my mountain bike or walking poles. In winter, I dance!

I love meeting new people and exploring new places. I’ve expanded my adventurous horizons in Nepal, England, Scotland, Canada, America, Colombia and the Pacific Islands. I started Moxie Travel NZ because I understand how much time, effort and money goes into planning an adventure holiday abroad. I’ve lived the glorious highs and gloomy lows, and I want more of the good stuff for you! I’d love to hear from you soon.

Quentin Maioha

Kia ora! My name’s Quentin and I’m currently living in the Hawke’s Bay (on the East Coast of New Zealand’s North Island).

My happy place is New Zealand’s outdoors –  in whatever capacity that might be. Hiking, white-water rafting, mountain biking, snowboarding, skiing, sea-kayaking, horse-riding and four-wheel driving are activities I’ve engaged in a lot – with hiking  being my number one. We have such fantastic facilities for hiking in New Zealand that really let you get away from the busy, ‘hustle and bustle’ of modern life. This can be for anything from a few hours to several weeks depending on your needs, time, budget and weather.

I enjoy meeting new people and spent over 20 years as a tour guide around Aotearoa, with two years doing the same in Ireland. I get a great sense of satisfaction and fulfillment when I see and hear peoples’ appreciation of a place and / or experience. That feeling is both rewarding and motivating which is why I jumped at the chance to work with Moxie Travel NZ.

There aren’t many places I haven’t been to in New Zealand or activities I haven’t done. I’m looking forward to using my passion for a country I’m so proud to call home, alongside my knowledge and experience, to design an unforgettable adventure holiday for you.

Tom Waters

Kia ora, I’m Tom! I’m based in Christchurch, on the East Coast of New Zealand’s South Island.

I have a passion for exploring New Zealand’s wild places. My perfect adventure involves hiking into New Zealand’s backcountry, connecting to a remote river and packrafting its tumultuous length. Over winter I add an ice axe to my missions and get excited about juicy spring flows. I also enjoy bouncing around the hills on my mountain bike, or downriver in my kayak.

I love poring over maps, and dreaming of adventures between the contour lines. I joined Moxie Travel to share dreams and collaborate over missions with other adventurous people. That’s where you fit in… Hope to meet you soon.

Riverlee Hunt

Kia ora, my name’s Riverlee! I’m originally from Canada and currently living in Palmerston North, a small city nestled between the North Island’s Ruahine and Tararua Ranges. I’ve always been in love with the outdoors and its capacity to connect us to self and nature.

I moved here from Canada to continue my studies in Outdoor Education and Adventure Leadership. Among my favourite pursuits are tramping, white water kayaking, rafting, caving, canoeing and my first love – sea kayaking. I’ve been working in the outdoor industry for several years as a guide and educator. I’m also an Adventure Therapist and consider it a privilege to be a part of anyone’s personal and outdoor journey.

Our time in the outdoors can help us thrive and grow in so many ways. I’m excited to be working with Moxie Travel and can’t wait to help connect you with your next adventure!

Shanan Miles

Kia ora koutou tū-ā-nuku whanau!

Ko Tangitu rāua ko Ahuriri ōku moana. Ko Maungaharuru rāua ko Tawhirirangi ōku maunga. Ko Mohaka te awa, te wai ora. Ko Kahu-o-te-Rangi te hapu. Ko Waipapa-a-Iwi te marae. Ko Ngāti Pāhauwera te iwi. Ko Shanan tōku ingoa.

How’s it going outdoor family? Hope you’re well!

I’m Shanan, hailing from Napier on the East coast of New Zealand’s North Island. My years here have been spent surfing waves at the beach, travelling downriver in a variety of craft and generally spending as much time in the outdoors as I possibly can. This has provided me an excellent foundation in whitewater kayaking, rock-climbing, tramping, caving and mountaineering – which I’ve happily transformed into a career over the years.

I currently work as an outdoor guide, instructor and educator. I also facilitate a variety of corporate adventure programmes for local business here in New Zealand. I’m very happy to share my knowledge of New Zealand’s outdoors with you, and to help you discover places for exploration and adventure in Te Ika-a-Māui o Aotearoa, the North Island of New Zealand.

Jess Harvey

Kia ora! I’m Jess, based at the top of New Zealand’s South Island in sunny Nelson!

I relocated from Sweden to New Zealand in 2010 to study Adventure Tourism. After completing my qualification I spent several years as an outdoor educator in Nelson Lakes, a guide on Fox Glacier, an instructor at Rainbow Ski Field and a mountain biking coach here in Nelson. I then commenced work as a local Travel Consultant, continuing to explore New Zealand extensively so I could offer best advice to those visiting New Zealand for an adventure holiday.

In 2016 I started racing enduro style mountain biking. This culminated in two 6-month trips to Europe and South America. I was fortunate to race alongside the best in the world and continue to ride competitively here in New Zealand. I’m currently studying Sport & Recreation, whilst coaching aspiring mountain bikers in the Nelson region.

I’m thrilled at the opportunity to work with Moxie Travel and to use my own experiences to support visitors in planning their own adventure holiday here in New Zealand. Love to meet you soon!

Martin Leslie

Kia ora, I’m Martin – originally from Nelson and long-time resident of the South Island’s Canterbury region.

I live in a part of New Zealand that’s blessed with easy access to beautiful coastal and mountain environments. Having grown up as an active participant in the outdoors I’ve developed a strong connection with the natural world such that my education, work and leisure has largely revolved around it.

My years in New Zealand’s outdoor environment have included tertiary study in earth sciences alongside a career in outdoor education, instruction and guiding. More recently I’ve worked in nature conservation, and focused attentively on the pursuits I love most – hiking and mountain biking. I now possess a deep knowledge of the South Island’s backcountry and the expertise to adventure in it safely – on foot, by bike or in a boat.

I love to share and foster an appreciation of this special land with others, and understand both as a traveller and guide, how much local knowledge can bring to an experience. I look forward to meeting you soon.

Steve Miller

Hey everyone, I’m Steve, currently based in Nelson, New Zealand. Most of my time off is spent in a boat or some form of two-wheeled device – mountain-biking and whitewater paddling are my faves! I teach kayaking, biking and bushcraft for a living. I love being on, in or around the water and believe that no adventure is complete without great company and even better food. If you can’t find me outside exploring all Aotearoa has to offer, I can usually be found in my shed fixing an old truck or bike! I’m stoked to be working with Moxie Travel and look forward to meeting you soon.
